Starbucks Marketing of the “RED CUP” was planned!
According to the Starbuck’s vice president of design and content, “This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.”
The design of the red cup went viral across all of social media! That is amazing PR you can’t even pay for. Everyone became an online marketer for Starbucks.
What can we learn from this?
First: Always be honest and trustworthy in all of your ads and marketing materials.
Building an online business is all about building relationships and developing trust. Always give your customers value, something that benefits them.
Second: KNOW your customer. Starbucks knew their customers would figure out the red cup was for them to tell their own story. It has not hurt Starbucks to have a simple, plain red cup, yet they have had MILLIONS see their simple red cup.
Again, something of value will be shared.
Third: Be creative. Never shy away from your creative side. Creativity and humor is definitely what makes any ad appealing. Whatever draws a person into your ad and makes them want to read it through to the end is what you are aiming for. Always being sure you are marketing what your customers are looking for, adding value to their lives.
I love the saying from “Field of Dreams”… “If you build it, he will come!”
If you build your online business with value, honesty, creativity and humor – with the customers’ best interests at heart – they will come.
